[His first thought upon seeing the city itself is that it is undeniably charming. He wonders if it might echo how Niez had looked in its best days, the windmills looming overhead immediately invoking thoughts of Dahna's own wind realm, and he offers his young tour guide a polite but easy smile in response.]
As warm and welcoming a city as I've ever seen.
[His own city of Viscint aside, those were few and far between where he comes from— and even then, it had hardly been so before he'd taken charge.]
There is music in the air.
[He makes this observation with a note of approval; several strains of bardsong are being carried across the wind from various corners, and he lifts a hand to rest over his heart.]
That so many would bare their souls so openly is quite beautiful.
[Oh, did she guess correctly. He's even more enamored with what he sees than she thought he'd be!]
I'm a bit biased, since I've always lived here, but I think it's pretty great too.
[Amber is many things. "Poetic" is not among them. But she's got the spirit, and that counts for something!]
As Outrider with the Knights of Favonius, it's my responsibility to show you around and make sure you're well taken care of. And if we're not caught, I have something to show you when we get to the topmost part of the city.
[Is she planning to take him gliding? Of course she's planning to take him gliding. It'll be worth risking her license (again) just to see the look on his face, she bets.]
Anyway, right here through this center corridor is our marketplace. We have basically anything you'd need, from blacksmithing to flowers to souvenirs, and--of course--places to eat and drink. Remind me to treat you to dinner at the Good Hunter after the tour.
[Consider him intrigued. He should probably be concerned that she's suggesting something that may well be frowned-upon, but he doesn't seem to be. Curiosity, as ever, wins out. It was one thing to discover artifacts to learn more about the world he lived in— thrilling in its own right, a passion he had pursued for years and would continue to do so as long as he was able, but to have an entirely new world to learn about was something else entirely. How much time he has here, he cannot know, but he should like to make the most of it.
He follows along with a smooth and steady gait, his expression alight with interest as he takes in the sights.]
I see Monstadt is quite lively. The people here seem to go about their work happily— a blessing many do not have the opportunity to experience.
[Mischievous, certainly, and illegal. But not anything bad. He won't be the one to suffer the consequences, in any case, and worst case for her is that she'll have to re-take her gliding exam for the umpteenth time and maybe listen to a lecture about responsibility. No sweat.]
You're right. We're really lucky to have been blessed by the Anemo Archon. He's been mostly content to give us a few pushes in the right direction and otherwise leave us to our freedoms. It really shows in how people go about their lives here.
[She pauses thoughtfully, making sure she has the details of Mondstadt's history correct in her head.]
That hasn't always been the case, though. But people have fought hard to help make our version of Mondstadt what it is, and I like to think that people are mindful of that.
The Anemo Archon... he is the lord that rules over this land, then?
[It's the first parallel that comes to mind, and he considers his own role in Elde Menancia. Truly, if the Anemo Archon was as generous as he sounds, then it's no wonder this city has flourished so.]
Your people have worked hard for what they have, and therefore realize how precious it is. That, too, is rare.
[It's enough like the realm he's come to call home to make him feel considerably more at ease, circumstances aside.]
[Amber pauses mid-stride as they walk through the central marketplace to consider her answer. "Archon," obviously, doesn't ring a bell with him.]
I guess you could put it that way. He's the god of Mondstadt, basically, and Archon of the wind. Other nations' Archons are much more involved in day-to-day things. If you decide to travel to any of the other Seven Nations, I'm sure you'll notice the difference.
[That answered, they get to walking again! Amber waves at Katheryne behind the Adventurer's Guild booth as they pass.]
Yup! Born and raised here, and I wouldn't have it any other way. You said you're from pretty far from here, right?
[Her explanation of what it means to be an Archon is as illuminating as it is startling. Gods, walking among mortals?]
I have no way of telling how much time I have in this realm of yours, but on principle alone, I should very much like to visit these other nations. To have gods of any kind having such close contact with mortals, even if only on occasion... I have never heard of such a thing.
[He finds that fact alone to be quite fascinating, as he does so many things.
He gives a polite bow of his head in response, laying a hand over his heart.]
I hail from the land of Elde Menancia, though I am a native of Rena. From what I've gathered so far, those names mean little to people here.
Based on proximity, your next stop would be Liyue. But their Archon just passed away, so you might want to keep talk about it to yourself. I'm sure they're still pretty torn up about it.
[She knows she would be, if Barbatos descended dead from the sky in such a fashion. And Morax arguably means more to the people of Liyue--surely, that sadness must be magnified.
When he mentions his homeland, Amber tilts her head slightly in response.]
Nope, can't say I've heard of Elde Menancia or Rena. What are those places like?
this is so old I apologize, feel free to ignore if it is too dusty!
[He furrows his brow, just slightly. That was quite a serious loss, one he's certain the entire country must be mourning if their Archons truly walk among them.]
I will keep that in mind. It wouldn't do to upset the locals in the name of curiosity.
[He can be tasteful.]
Both Elde Menancia and Rena, however, are quite different from this place— as different as they are from one another, in fact. Elde Menancia, at least, is known for its lush greenery and fertile soil. Aesthetically, it is not so different from your Monstadt— green as far as the eye can see.
